The Knot in the Verse
Above all else and Before all else is The Creator. The shaper of worlds and the progenitor of all races. We hope to please him through The Work. Just what The Work is is the subject of endless debate. The only common thread is that no matter which church you join, no matter which saint you offer devotions to, it is dedication and goodness that lead one to sainthood. Each church (Knowledge (Knochu), Contest (Conchu), Nature (Natchu), Aesthetics (Aeschu), Civilization (Civchu)) has one founder, The High Saint of their church, whose work was so special that The Creator blessed them directly so that they might complete it before they died. An adventurer looking for locations for new outposts might pray to the Church of Civilization, High Saint Jelinteri, or the patron saint of expansion, Saint Germaine. Some saints are lauded by multiple churches. Germaine, for instance, is the CivChu saint of expansion, but the ConChu saint of monster slaying.
The Beatified, as the collected body of saints are known, intercede often on this plane for their adherents. Few individuals don’t offer devotion to at least one saint, often more, and they are usually tangibly rewarded for their faith at some point.
It should be noted that The Army itself had almost the exact same religion as Berisole. Only in the smallest of details were there any differences at all. And although they couldn’t remember what their Beatified were, they were quick to adopt Berisole’s pantheon as their own. Deep faith served as a common bond for many of The Army and of The Invaded. Sects exist though, within both groups, who believe religious exclusivity is vital to maintaining the difference between their race and the others.
